Doctor Who, Season 4 I didn't like Donna for much of this series, but once I'd finished it I looked back and realised that I may have been unfair. In the end I thought she was a far stronger conterpoint than any of the last few have been. Rose and Martha never made any traction against the doctor. Donna, though sometimes irritating, best fulfilled the role of showing the alienness of the Doctor and giving the audience a human proxy to view the stories through. This is particularly evident in episodes like The Doctor's Daughter.
This season had some fantastic episodes. The Doctor's Daughter I really liked, and the Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead were brilliant. I also really liked the 2007 Christmas Special and thought Astrid made a better companion than either Rose or Martha.
Man, Steven Moffet should write more episodes for Doctor Who, as his are invariably great.
The ending for the season felt weak to me. It was full of jibber-jabber and gobbledegook solutions to problems. The our-powers-combined Power Rangers vibe was pretty meh, too. I just hope that's the last time the Daleks have to be wiped out - the season 1 episode "Dalek" was a classy way to bring back a favourite old enemy for a bit of a last hurrah. Using them for the series finale was okay. Daleks in Manhattan was probably the shark-jumping moment for the Daleks. I don't want to see them or the cybermen again. They had their respect moments and the writers should be able to come up with something more contemporary.
